This August, the San Antonio chapter of ILEA (International Live Events Association) awarded me a full scholarship to attend ILEA Live – a three day conference for the special events industry. I am so grateful to our local chapter for this opportunity and honored to represent San Antonio in Minneapolis.
The events industry is a curious one. There is no barrier to entry, no mandated tests, and no regulatory boards. Anyone can decide to start a business with nothing more than a website and their own wedding or family reunion under their belt. A bit scary!
Because of this, true event professionals govern themselves through voluntary certifications, association memberships and continuing education. In this environment, the cream of the crop rise and separates from the rest of the pack. Membership in ILEA and attending ILEA Live are critical to this professional development.
Every year, ILEA brings the best speakers and experts together for three fun-filled days. And each year that I have attended, I have learned something new that has made me a better event producer and business owner. I get a glimpse of the hottest trends across the globe, and I learn the best legal and safety practices that will give my clients security and peace of mind. And I get to enjoy time with my ILEA family.
ILEA members must take an oath to uphold the ethics in the special event industry, and it is not an oath that is taken lightly. When you contract an ILEA member, you can rest assured that you are in the best and most capable hands. So before you hire anyone for your next event, ask what associations they belong to. Choose only the ones that are actively plugged into the industry. You will not be disappointed.
